Background of islamic medical association of zimbabwe
In October 2006 Medical Doctors and Pharmacists of Bulawayo came together and established the Islamic Medical Association of Zimbabwe (IMAZ). With the objective of alleviating the plight and suffering of people who needed medical assistance under the umbrella of Islam..
Through the assistance of the community, they purchased a clinic in Bulawayo and named it Al Shifa clinic. IMA South Africa donated a mobile clinic, which enables them to conduct outreach programmes in the outlining areas
IMAZ has established branches in Harare and Kwekwe. It is in the process of establishing Al Shifa clinics in these centres.
IMAZ received branch status from IMA South Africa, recognition from Zimbabwe Medical Association ZIMA, and is a member of Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA). It has a membership of more than 20 Doctors countrywide and is expected to grow.
Through our Al-Shifa Clinic, we offer daily clinic services to both Muslims and non-Muslims. We have branches in both Bulawayo and Kwekwe.
IMAZ conducts cataract eye operation camps for
the needy in Zimbabwe at Parerinyatwa hospital in
Harare as well as Richard Morris hospital in
IMAZ facilitates circumcision programmes through the Ministry of Health throughout Zimbabwe. These are usually done in collaboration with our partners, who include PSI Zimbabwe.
